Maata is a browser extension by Telugu Techy. It finds spoken lines in YouTube captions. Maata is free. All features work without payment.
Captions you read, tags, Look (theme), language, and spelling corrections you save are stored in this Chrome profile on this computer (IndexedDB). They are not uploaded to a Maata server. Each computer has its own copy. Reloading or updating Maata does not wipe captions you already saved. When you read a video, Maata also writes maata-captions-backup.json in your Downloads folder on this computer. That file is not uploaded. Chrome’s Remove on chrome://extensions still clears IndexedDB; the Downloads file stays so you can restore after you add Maata again. You can delete a video’s captions in Saved captions. You can export a Maata file from Saved captions and send it to someone else. They import it on their computer. Chrome does not sync this library. Do not copy Chrome’s User Data folder to share captions — that can break Chrome. We do not have a Maata backend.
On youtube.com and youtu.be watch pages, Maata reads the caption/transcript data YouTube already has for that video so you can search it. It does not record the video picture or sound.
If you tap Email Telugu Techy, Maata opens Gmail with a draft to mydearchiru@gmail.com. Nothing is sent until you tap Send in Gmail.
